A lot of people remember Perseverance, the rover who landed on Mars back in February. And while the landing was a great feat of human engineering and math, an even greater accomplishment was Ingenuity. Ingenuity is the small helicopter aboard Perseverance who currently is the only known object to successfully fly on another planet. Ingenuity took flight on April 19th. Its first flight consisted on literally going up a couple of feet and then landing. Ingenuity will also map out the martian terrain and will investigate, pick and carry samples from Mars, alongside Perseverance. If humans are ever going to colonize mars, they will need to be able to efficiently and effectively carry materials by helicopter. Testing these prototypes now will help make the technology of the future happen.

In class, we had to write a creative piece. I chose to write about a student studying abroad, writing a letter to his uncle.

Dear Unc,

How’s it going?

I have been busy these last few weeks and haven’t had the time to write to you. I am back in school and supposed to be learning things. I don’t really think that this is the case at all. All I do is go from class to class and listen to some people speak in Italian. I don’t have a lot of friends, since all of the locals don’t seem to like foreigners. I have met Baguette, a cool Frenchman, as well as Crumpets, a very funny Englishman.

I hope to return back home after this semester is over.

Cheers,

Your Nephew
